First airing in 2001, Scrubs continued for nine seasons with 2010 being its official end. While it’s always sad to see a great comedy series call it a day it’s important to appreciate the memories that remain. At the time of writing I have watched and enjoyed seven seasons worth of Scrubs and from those experiences I have compiled what are, for me, the ten best moments. My choices contain many of Scrubs’ magical ingredients:- an obligatory rant from Dr Cox, a taste of the brilliant range of backing music and, of course, those occasions when the laughs are put to one side and the reality of hospital life hits you hard.
Dr Cox says “No!”
Love him or hate him, an episode of Scrubs is simply not complete without a rant from Dr Cox (John C McGinley). Whoever he’s dealing with or whatever the situation Dr Cox remains patronising, keeping his victim around long enough to take in his words, before brutally dismissing them as quickly as he summoned them with his characteristic prompt whistle.
In this scene Dr Cox demonstrates to JD the vast range of ways he can say “no” culminating in his personal favourite – the man falling off a cliff while shouting “no!” Despite quickly getting the message and trying to continue the conversation, JD finds he has to wait for Dr Cox to complete the fictitious man’s descent from the cliff, ending with a satisfying splat as he hits the ground. What makes Dr Cox so appealing as a character is that although his verbosity can see him through just about any exchange, there is a vulnerability about him which comes across in some episodes and makes him, for me, the best of all Scrubs’ characters.
Top Ten so far:-
8) Dr Cox says “No!”
